Sunny Summer Preggo Style

Over the years, I’ve heard a lot about how it’s not fun being pregnant during the summer months.  In my case I’m living out the third trimester during the hottest months of the year…here in the So Cal foothills we can reach temps above 100 degrees in August and September.  But I have to say it’s not as bad as I thought it would be.  Probably for one because we get a very dry heat out near the desert…humidity is low, so it’s not crazy sweaty like it would be where I grew in South Florida.  Also, I’m fortunate to have a swimming pool in my backyard, and swimming (or more like floating) is one thing I can still do at this stage in the game.  Finally, I’ve suffered pretty bad lower back pain during my pregnancy, and I think the heat helps a bit, whereas cold weather would probably make it worse.  The most important thing IMO is how you dress for the heat while pregnant.  I’ve been living in breezy dresses for a few months now.  It’s truly the easiest way to go!

My mom bought me this casual tie-dye dress when she was vacationing in Manhattan Beach earlier this summer…she figured it would be perfect for pregnancy and she was right.  It’s super lightweight and works for very hot days.  Plus it’s extra roomy, so even at 30 weeks it doesn’t cling to my belly.  I styled it with jeweled sandals (flats are all I can mange at this stage!) and a cute Rebecca Minkoff bucket bag.  I’m nearly eight months pregnant now and have to say I can’t wait for this baby to be out.  The second trimester was a breeze, but the third not so much.  My lower back kills and my belly feels sooooo heavy…though I’ve only gained 14 lbs so far (so I feel pretty good in that respect).  Unfortunately, weight gain and comfort seem to be mutually exclusive :/  At least it’s not too much longer now!
