Two-Piece Chic In Chambray

This next look is not exactly a dress – it’s more like a maxi skirt with a crop top. However, when the top and bottom match (or complement one another), it’s often referred to as a two-piece dress.  This outfit didn’t come as a set, but I knew the items would pair well. Dusty blue with white is a classic color combo, and I love the contrasting textures. I wanted to showcase this variation on a traditional maxi dress because the “two-piece dress” is very in right now.  It’s a great option for a vacation getaway, or in my case, something as simple as brunch with friends.  I love that dressing up is part of my job – and there’s nothing wrong with dressing up for everyday events no matter who you are and what you do!

Moon River Maxi + Instagram Giveaway

Happy Saturday everyone!  First and foremost, I’m here to gush over my love for Moon River.  Moon River is a new-ish local brand.  Their aesthetic is actually inspired by the song (which if you don’t know is an absolutely lovely, old-school 1960’s tune.)  When I first discovered the brand via Instagram, I fell in love with the elegant vintage/boho vibe.  My only struggle (as I learned after trying on a few dresses at a shop in Claremont) is that their clothes run a bit big.  I finally settled on this striking black and white floral maxi, though for an XS you can see there’s a lot of fabric.  Of course I’m on the extreme end of petite, so I often struggle with sizing.  Nonetheless I love this dress.  I’m a sucker for black and white and the lattice detail around the neckline adds a special touch.  I wore this dress for dinner with girlfriends and received several compliments.

Happy May Day | Month Of Maxis

Did you know that May 1st is historically referred to as May Day?  Though it’s not widely celebrated in the U.S., May Day is a traditional spring holiday in many cultures.  It’s origins date back to ancient Rome, where they marked the date with a festival to honor the upcoming summer season. May is an absolutely beautiful time here in So Cal because we have so much incredible foliage in bloom. Not to mention the weather is perfect – not too hot, not too cold, and there’s always a warm breeze across the air.  That being said, I’m SO EXCITED to to announce a fun little campaign I’m running for the month of May.  It’s the perfect time of year for a beautiful maxi dress and I can’t even tell you how much I love maxis.  They’re fluid and elegant, modest yet sexy, and oh so flattering for a variety of body types. I love how a maxi dress makes a statement with just a single article of clothing.  As you might imagine, I own quite a few, so I’ve had this idea brewing for a while… I thought it would be fun to dedicate an entire month to just wearing maxis, and I plan to feature all of my favorites on the blog throughout the month, beginning with this pretty little floral dress from Express.

Eliza J | Little Striped Dress

Blue and white stripes are an iconic springtime print.  Last spring I went crazy looking for a little striped dress.  I tried on tons and couldn’t find a single one I liked.  Then this spring rolled around and I found several…so I splurged and bought a few different styles.  This one from Eliza J is a favorite because it was a perfect fit off the rack.  Eliza J specializes in pretty little dresses and offers a wide selection in petite sizes. You can’t shop directly from their site, but many of their designs are stocked at Nordstrom in regular, petite, and plus.  This particular dress is a great choice because it’s versatile.  I wore it as a day dress with strappy flat sandals, then stepped it up for the evening with nude heels and statement earrings.

Festival Style: Split Leg Pants

For those of you who don’t know, this past weekend marked the first weekend of Coachella – a fact you pretty much can’t avoid living in southern California.  Though I would’ve killed to go even five years ago, I can safely say my music festival days are over.  Mommy and festival groupie don’t exactly go hand in hand. (Legit I’m not in my 20’s anymore!)  But that doesn’t mean I don’t dig festival style.  My college days were super boho and I definitely still hang on to some of that vibe.  So I love peeping all the looks out of Coachella Valley and even shopping some of the styles for those upcoming hot summer days.  For this look I styled split leg pants with a crochet top for a coffee date with friends – and I scored several compliments on my outfit along the way.

Spring Denim: Cute & Cropped

I’m 100% into jeans for casual days.  I don’t always feature denim on the blog because I like to mix it up and showcase unique looks, but I definitely wear a lot of jeans when I’m running errands around town. One trend I really love in denim is the cropped flare.  They’ve been on the scene since last spring but it’s taken me a while to find a pair that work for my height…since I’m so short the crops are nearly full length on me. Funny but not funny.  I eventually bought a pair and cropped them myself for that raw hem look – but hey it worked!

Athleisure Rock & Roll

Athleisure is a trend that’s been going strong the last few spring seasons, and I don’t think it’s going anywhere anytime soon.  I feel like it started with leggings worn as casual wear for everyday use and now the trend has morphed into something much more encompassing.  Sweat pants, and especially joggers, are commonplace whether you’re working out or running to the store.  They’re even made to look “dressed-up” in a variety of prints and fabrics. Athleisure is a popular trend because, by and large, it’s a comfortable one.  Stretchy yoga pants are a better bet for brunch than your skin tight jeans.  Not to mention there’s a true convenience in heading from the gym to an appointment without a second thought.  Personally, I’m not crazy about the full-on athletic look unless I’m actually working out.  I am however on-board with adopting an athletic piece here and there to incorporate into a fabulous outfit.  Hence, this jumpsuit that I knew I had to have…
